Luke Shaw is in line to return to the Manchester United squad for the Champions League tie against Young Boys following a concussion, sources have said.

Defender Shaw returned to Carrington on Monday afterย being forced offย with a head injury during England’s defeat to Spain on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has not yet returned to full training and is set to miss the trip to Watford on Saturday, but after being assessed by United’s medical staff there is hope that he could return for the Champions League opener in Switzerland on Wednesday.

Under rules introduced at the start of the 2014-15 season, players are not allowed to return to competitive action for at least six days after suffering a concussion.

Left-back Shaw is likely to be replaced in Jose Mourinho’s squad for the Premier League game against Watford by Diogo Dalot, who is fit again after knee surgery.
